New exhibition on CTBT verification regime was shown during scientific symposium
On the occasion of the scientific symposium "CTBT: Synergies with Science, 1996-2006 and Beyond" from 31 August to 1 September 2006, the Provisional Technical Secretariat of the Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBTO) presented an exhibition on the CTBT verification regime. The exhibition was shown at the Hofburg Congress Center in Vienna, the venue of the scientific symposium.
Five large exhibition walls were dedicated to key elements of the CTBT verification regime, including the International Monitoring System (IMS), monitoring technologies, the International Data Centre (IDC), global communication and data storage, and on-site inspections. Displays of specialized equipment and data displays on various computer monitors complemented the exhibition display walls.
A central showpiece in the exhibition was an operational seismoacoustic station. Among other highlights of the exhibition were two miniature models of typical infrasound and hydroacoustic stations and a globe depicting all facilities of the IMS. Computer screens showed the real time status of communication from international monitoring facilities and data processing at the IDC. Other computer screens displayed the range of IDC products that are made available to Member States.
The exhibition included displays on the e-training project that was launched by the CTBTO Preparatory Commission with the help of a voluntary financial contribution of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The project is meant to promote capacity building to enable States Signatories to make full use of the benefits offered by the Commission through state of the art technology.
