Romania signs Facility Agreement

Romania has signed a Facility Agreement with the Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO), granting the Preparatory Commission the necessary legal authority to carry out work on International Monitoring System (IMS) facilities on Romanian territory. Under the terms of the Treaty, Romania hosts an auxiliary seismic station at Muntele Rosu (AS081). The Facility Agreement was signed on behalf of Romania by Mr Lucian Biro, State Secretary of the Ministry of Water and Environmental Protection and President of the National Commission for Nuclear Activity Control, and by the Executive Secretary, Wolfgang Hoffmann, on behalf of the Commission. The Commission has now signed 26 Facility Agreements with States hosting IMS facilities. Romania signed the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT) on 24 September 1996 and ratified it on 5 October 1999. The Treaty bans all nuclear test explosions in any environment.
