On-site inspection workshop in Israel to evaluate IFE14
A workshop is being held in Ramat-Gan, Israel, from 12 to 16 April to review and analyse the major on-site inspection exercise, the Integrated Field Exercise IFE14. The exercise was conducted by the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO) in Jordan from 3 November to 9 December last year, as part of the build-up of its verification regime.
Around 100 experts specializing in nuclear physics, geophysics, seismology, communication, health / safety and other verification-related areas from 30 countries will participate. This workshop is the first in a series of IFE14 follow-up activities. It is co-hosted by the Israel Atomic Energy Commission. See here for details on the workshop's structure and agenda.
CTBTO Executive Secretary Lassina Zerbo opened the workshop's high-level segment, which was be attended by diplomats and nuclear policy experts.
While in Israel, Zerbo met with Yuval Steinitz, Minister of Intelligence and Strategic Affairs, with Shaul Chorey, Head of the Israel Atomic Energy Commission, with Tzipi Livni, former Minister of Justice and Foreign Affairs, as well as with other high-level officials. Zerbo last visited Israel in March 2014.
